The writer behind Bearwolf World

The kids’ book guy
in the yellow jumper.

Meet Daniel.

Daniel James writes as D. C. R. James. He has spent twenty years with Bearwolf, Fidget and the rest. They have a habit of turning up wherever there is a story to be told.

Now there is a whole little world for your family to discover.

A world to grow up with

Unusual friends.
Very familiar feelings.

Being brave. Wanting to win. Feeling different. Making a mistake. Finding a friend you did not expect.

The Bearwolf books bring those feelings into funny, curious adventures. The creatures may be unusual, but there is plenty to recognise—and plenty to talk about when you close the book.

For families with children aged 4–8, the books are a place to read together. The games, affirmations and sleep stories offer other ways to spend time with the same friends.

Start with a real look inside

A few things parents might like to know

Choose a way in that suits your family.

Where should we start?

Try a few pages of The Bravest Penguineapig for courage and friendship, or Bearwolf and the Bubbles for a curious adventure. You can meet the characters through a free story or game first, too.

Are these books for children to read on their own?

They are picture-book stories to read and enjoy together, aimed at ages 4–8. They are not a phonics-matched reading scheme. For a little word-reading practice together, try the separate free Word Wall Challenge.

Can we try the world before buying a book?

Yes. The character games, sleep stories and affirmations are free, with no sign-up needed. Pick one thing and see how it feels to share it.

Is there something to do away from the screen?

There are free printable colouring sheets and illustrated classroom packs, as well as the books themselves. You do not need to complete a game to enjoy a story.
